Insurance Company Grant Adds Color to Antrim's Main Street

ANTRIM--There will be a little more local color on Antrim's Main Street this summer, thanks in part to a grant by a local insurance agency, Contoocook Valley Insurance, and its primary insurance carrier, Co-Operative Insurance Companies of Middlebury, Vermont.

The Antrim Chamber of Commerce has been raising funds for colorful banners to be affixed to the new light poles in downtown Antrim to be installed this spring.  Last Friday, Co-Op Insurance Customer Relations Manager Fletcher Brush presented a check for $500.00 toward the project to John Robertson, an Antrim Chamber member and owner of Contoocook Valley Insurance.

"We are committed to the communities we serve, and our Community Grants Program is a good way to help support smaller communities," said Co-op Insurance's Brush. "We also like to see our agents get involved in their community, and hope that our grants help to stimulate giving by other companies in the community," he said.  Co-Operative Insurance has 50 agents serving New Hampshire and Vermont.

The design of the banners is still under discussion, but it is the hope of the Antrim Chamber of Commerce to have 16 banners in one color and design installed by the summer, then acquire seasonal banners in the future.  The banners will be initially installed on the new light poles to be in place this spring on the east side of Main Street, and on power poles on the west side of the street, pending Public Service of New Hampshire approval.

John Robertson, vice chairman of the ACC and an agent for Co-Op Insurance for nine years, has been spearheading the banner effort.  "Local business has a responsibility to help with revitalizing and putting back into the community," he said.  "I'm fortunate to have a corporate partner who cares about the community as much as I do," said Robertson.

"I am so excited about the banners," said Brian Beihl, chairman of the Antrim Chamber of Commerce.  "The banners will give a classy, cohesive look to Main Street, highlighting all the hard work that's been done by the town in the past two years." he said.

The remaining funding for the initial banners, estimated at $2100, will come from ACC funds, and ACC businesses, some of whom have already pledged $250.00 each toward the project.  Additional seasonal banners will be added in the coming years, and the ACC will continue to solicit donations toward the long-term project.
